Cinderella gazed longingly at the palace as her step-sisters rode away to the ball. If she could have one wish, it would be to go to the ball, just for a little bit, and dance to the beautiful music. She could almost hear it as she swayed back and forth, humming to her broom. "I have heard you wish," said a voice behind her. Cinderella turned around to see a fairy. She smiled, "I am your Fairy God-Mother," she explained. We all know how it ends but what if that isn't really how the story went. Once Upon a Time is a TV show that takes all of the classic fairytale heroes and turns their stories inside out and upside down. It is centered around the story of Snow White, who in this version, is far from defenseless. Her "evil stepmother", Regina, is as cold and beautiful. Snow White and Prince Charming are getting married, they have fought for true love and won but Regina has other plans. She casts a curse that sends them all to Storybrooke, Maine where only she can have a happy ending. Regina is the only one who remembers the past but as Rumplestiltskin promised; there is one who will break the curse. The show brings up many questions of morality and love. It also provides many complex characters. Every episode has a flash back, allowing you to understand what really happened and why characters feel and act the way they do. On the next pages are four characters who never meet in Disney's version, but all play essential roles in each other's lives in Once Upon a Time. I hope this brief introduction to Once Upon a Time will make you curious enough to watch a few episodes.
